Valentine's Day

February 14 is Valentine's Day - traditionally the day on which lovers express their love for each other. On this day, lovers send each other "valentines", i.e. flowers, chocolates and small presents. The term "Valentine's Day" is largely believed to have its roots in legends surrounding Saint Valentine, who performed Christian marriages in the third century. The date was also celebrated in Ancient Rome: "Valentinades", at which women were given flowers - much like they are today - were held on February 14 in honor of the Roman goddess Juno, the protector of marriages and families. In 15th century England, this custom was seen as an expression of love and taken by English emigrants with them to the "New World". It was then ultimately from America that Valentine's Day came to Germany in the 1950s. With the brightly designed packaging of the "BE HAPPY! From Heart to Heart" chocolates, which the well-known cartoonist Walter Steinbeck has created exclusively for Confiserie Riegelein, lovers no longer have to think up those special words themselves - "I'm glad you're there" is just one of the delightful "BE HAPPY! From Heart to Heart" messages.
